Frequently Asked Questions
How long do the vessel sealing handpieces last?
While manufacturers package the handpieces as single-use items, many veterinary hospitals report getting 25 to 35 uses per handpiece. Lifespan largely depends on the sterilization method and the level of maintenance of the handpieces. EO gas sterilization tends to extend usability compared to plasma sterilization.
What is the proper way to use the grounding pad?
Grounding pads can be placed either under the patient or on the floor. Both methods are effective. Shaving the application area is optional, as we have not seen a significant difference in conductivity with or without shaving. It typically comes down to user preference and the patient’s condition.
How much do the handpieces cost?
Our vessel sealing handpieces are typically priced around $850 each, plus shipping. If you prefer LigaSure-branded handpieces, pricing varies from $750 to $3,500, depending on the model and availability.
Are the grounding pads reusable?
We use reusable pads only for demos and workshops. For regular customer use, we offer disposable grounding pads at a very affordable rate: $15 for a pack of 50.
